On Sept. 4, Prado Farms will host a hands-on training on biodynamic agriculture called Practical Abundance, will discuss the basics of biodynamic agriculture and how it keeps nature in balance. Participants will receive training on actual biodynamic compost preparation, stirring and spraying from one of the country’s experts, Gregory Kitma.

Kitma, president of the Philippine Bio-dynamic Agriculture Research Foundation, Inc. (PhilBio), says biodynamic agriculture revitalizes the life forces of the soil, stimulating root growth, microorganism production, and humus formation. The method makes use of sprays and soil starter preparations derived from cow manure, herbs and mineral substances that will be applied to soil and plants. Biodynamic soils absorb and hold back large amounts of water, and assist in lessening the severity of floods.

PhilBio is a non-government organization that aims to promote biodynamic agriculture in the country. Together with a small group of vegetable farmers in the province Benguet and Mt Province, Kitma also serves as a consultant for organic and bio-dynamic agriculture to various NGOs and individuals in the country.

The training is open to farm owners who wish to introduce biodynamic agricultural process in their lands or know more about the benefits of the system, farmers who want to learn about implementation of the bio-dynamic process, agricultural students, professors, NGO professionals, and other individulas who wish to learn more about biodynamic farming and are interested in the practical application of Rudolf Steiner’s Ideas on anthroposophy. Training will be held in Prado Farms in Prado Siongco, Lubao, Pampanga.

Aug 19-21, 2010

Conference Program

(as of August 10, 2010. Subject to change as conference date approaches)

Day 1, Thursday, August 19, 2010

9:00-9:10 - Welcome by Reimon Gutierrez, Founder, ISIP Philippines

9:10-10:30 - Dr Marian I. Alonzo, PAAHPI

Well-Being: Generating Optimal Health
The session is designed as an experiential lecture, nourishing the senses in the process and introducing healing modalities like art therapy and healing thru movement.

Participants will be acquainted with the universal Principles of Well-Being and learn that choosing a Healthy Lifestyle need not be equated to an experience of limited choices or a life of constraints; nor does it have to be a life of powerlessness over chronic diseases, heavy metals, noise/air pollution and other disease agents.

Behind this activity is the carrying thought:  Well-Being as a Way of Life, leaving participants inspired and “in love with life” of abundance and vitality.

Integral to this would be an introduction to existing systems to ground daydreams to reality and anchoring the language to the world of medicine and biochemistry such the ideas are still connected to the accepted mainstream language of science.

10:30-11:00 - AM Break

11:00-12:00 - Dr Marian I. Alonzo, PAAHPI
With Monica Reonisto

Nourishing the Body and Soul: Science and Art of Food Preparation
“Let food be thy medicine!” Hippocrates declared. This session enlivens that statement by showing how food preparation affects the quality of food and its nutritional value, and presenting the latest researches on the body of knowledge on nutrients. This will be tied up with other healing modalities like aromatherapy, herbal medicine etc., connecting biochemical nutritional science with healing traditions like Ayurveda and Chinese medicine.  There will be actual food preparation by nutritionist Monica Reonisto who will emphasize the value of eating fresh foods, especially from locally- or regionally-sourced ingredients, with Dr Alonzo providing commentary on the nutritional and biochemical science behind the process.

12:00-1:30 - LUNCH

1:30-3:00 - Dr Jenny Madamba, PAAHPI

Hypertension: Your role, An Integrative Approach
Hypertension is multifaceted and multi-related, requiring an integrative approach. This lecture offers:
• a deeper understanding of hypertension
• new insights to desire taking charge of one’s own health
• an enhancement of our ability to cope and recover from hypertension

Discussion includes the following aspects:
• The Body in Health; The Body in Disease

Healing spaces

Day 2, Friday, August 20, 2010

9:00-10:30 - To be confirmed

10:30-11:00 - Dr. Malou Medrano

Dental Health as Indispensable Factor in the Healing Equation

Teeth are not only for chewing but also act as an indicator of the child’s growth and development, and readiness for school.  Science shows that the health of your child’s mouth and teeth affects his entire body, including the heart and the immune system. In my experience, most of us dentists are preoccupied with ‘crisis dental care’ where almost everything we do is repair work. Prevention is the key to good dental health. In this talk, we will learn the importance of diet and proper nutrition and the vital role of breastfeeding in dental development; become familiar with herbs, flower remedies, and homeopathic remedies that can ease dental problems, how you can help your child have a positive attitude about dental visits, plus other practical recommendations to help you engineer your child’s dental future.

11:00-11:15 - AM Break

11:15-12:30 - Dr Cricket Chen, PAAHPI

Understanding your Child’s Illness and Simple Measures you can do at Home

The concept of Salutogenesis vs. pathogenesis

The concept of the four-fold man and how a child incarnates

What is the meaning of illness and how it transforms a child

What are the factors that generate health and how to restore a healthy state

The difference between chemical-based medicines, herbal medicines, homeopathic remedies and anthroposophic remedies: when to use and how to combine

Some simple external treatments you can do at home

12:30-2:00 - LUNCH

2:00-3:30 - Dr. Lolet Tan, PAAHPI

Illness with No Name: what our organs are telling us

You find yourself feeling that there is something not right with you and yet you’ve been told by your doctor that there is nothing wrong with you. All the diagnostics and laboratory results, which have cost you an arm and a leg, have come back negative. The well-meaning loving Doctor sends you home, reassuring you that all will be fine. Yet, you feel something is still not right. These signs may not necessarily point to a particular illness, but they are there for  a reason. Find out how your organs make themselves felt by sending us subtle messages. You may not be ill, but you are not entirely in perfect health.

3:45-5:00 - Dr. Lolet Tan, PAAHPI

Menopause and dealing with other life transitions

Day 3, Saturday, August 21, 2010

9:00-12:00 - Anthroposophia Wellness Foundatin, Inc. (AWFI)
with Lormie Lazo, Susan Quimpo, ]Susana Calalay-Yniguez, Tina Tioseco

Change of HeArt, Hands-On: Art for Healing and Self-Learning
This workshop will give participants a taste of how the innovative use of art therapy combined with a close study of one’s personal biography can be a potent tool for healing.  Therapeutic art as a means of expression, and therefore emotional release, may now be administered in workshops much like “psychological first aid.”  Whereas several sessions of combined biography work and art therapy, done with close coordination with medical doctors, provide a non-threatening approach to psychological counseling.  Through time and the artistic process, a patient is able to confront psychological and emotional baggage which often is the cause of illness.

12:00-2:00 -  LUNCH

2:00-5:00 - Clinica Blumea with Dr. Paulita V. Baclig, Dr. Ferdinand S. Brawner, and Damarisa B. Ceriales, RN

Integrative Mind Health
Clinica Blumea will discuss successful integrative programs it has developed in collaboration with psychiatrists, developmental pediatricians, and psychologists for the management of anxiety, depression, mental illness, early dementia, memory loss, learning and behavior problems in children. Practical suggestions we can do everyday to maintain mind health will also be shared.

As of 10 August 2010. The program as presented above is tentative dependent on speaker availability. Subject to change as conference approaches.

SALUTOGENESIS is organized by ISIP Philippines, in cooperation with the Philippine Association of Anthroposophic Health Practitioners, Inc (PAAHPI) and Anthroposophia Wellness Foundation, Inc (AWFI).

The Institute for Steiner’s Ideas in Practice (ISIP) Philippines provides a space for the concepts of Rudolf Steiner, Austrian social thinker and philosopher, to flourish as forums for discussion and as applied efforts. ISIP produces events that aim to increase the depth and breadth of understanding of Steiner’s work. Steiner is best known in the Philippines as the founder of the field of study known as anthroposophy, the philosophical basis of the Waldorf schools, bio-dynamic farming, and anthroposophic medicine. The ISIP Center, located in Makati City, also houses The ISIP Store. Bio-dynamically grown rice, vegetables and herbs are available, as well as organic food products, plant-based, chemical-free household cleaning agents, organic soaps, baby products, and other personal care items.

Philippine Association of Anthroposophic Health Practitioners (PAAHPI) is a group of doctors trained in Anthroposophic Medicine under the leadership of the Medical Section of the School of Spiritual Science of the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland. It aims to promote the Anthroposophical framework in the integration of alternative medicine with the conventional sciences as applied in health care services, academe and regulating bodies.

Anthroposophia Wellness Foundation, Inc. was organized by professionals from the medical, artistic, and health-related fields to transform the consciousness of individuals and communities towards wellness and healing through an understanding of the human being, and developing Anthroposophic medical health care models responsive to the needs of Philippine communities. AWFI’s mission envisions spiritually-conscious, healthy and free individuals living their life with dignity in a transformed society. The AWFI vision is committed to actively participate in the realization of wellness and being through Anthroposophic initiatives.

6 July, MAKATI CITY – It is not often that physicians recommend a review of the day’s happenings as a significant factor in healing physical ailments.

What usually happens is that a visit to the doctor entails a quick examination, a discussion of the patient’s history of illness, and either a prescription for medication, a recommendation for further tests, or outright surgery.

Rarely are the patient’s emotions discussed, and almost never past traumas, milestones, or personal conflicts.

Dr. Jenny Madamba, a physician who uses acupuncture and different healing methods in her practice, believes that the mind-body connection must be understood by the patient to create the optimum conditions for health and wellness. “Our bodies & minds become susceptible to disease when our needs are not met or if the challenges are too great,” she explains. “The key to preventing health problems, increasing the ability to cope with life’s demands, and recovering from illness lies in mobilizing the natural resources of the body and the mind/spirit.”

Illness is not to be looked at in isolation, she says, but as part of an expression of person’s personal, and not only medical history.

Dr. Madamba, a Certified Family Physician who specializes in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Anthroposophic Medicine, will explain this further at a seminar enitled HOLISTIC HEALTH: A Breakthrough with the Spirit!  to be held on July 13 at the ISIP Center in Makati City.

Part 1 of the seminar, to be held in the morning, shows the body-mind connection to health and illness, and presents techniques such as the Backward Review of the Day, a meditative review of experiences at the end of each day. This sets the groundwork for Part 2 which is Biography Work, to be held in the afternoon. Dr. Madamba will also introduce the Emotional Freedom Technique, claimed to reduce the emotional impact of memories and incidents that trigger emotional distress. Healing is promoted once the distress is reduced or removed.

Dr Madamba has been a Consultant to the Department of Health's Philippine Institute for Alternative Health Care (PITAHC) to set competency standards for the practice of acupuncture and Tui Na massage, and is now on its Accreditation Committee. She is also the Advocacy, Networking, Research and Training Coordinator for the Integrative Medicine for Alternative Health Care Systems (INAM).

The two-part course is for those intent on taking charge of their own health and understanding the true nature of illness. Parents, health care practitioners, caregivers, and those dealing with health challenges will gain a new understanding of wellness. Fee is P800 per part. A nutritious lunch with bio-dynamically grown vegetables will be available for those enrolling in both parts.

The seminar is organized by the Institute for Steiner’s Ideas in Practice (ISIP). Through the years, ISIP has produced seminars and workshops that deepen the understanding of the work of Austrian philosopher and social thinker Rudolf Steiner. In the Philippines, Steiner is best known as the founder of a field of study known as anthroposophy that is the philosophical basis of the Waldorf schools, bio-dynamic farming, and anthroposophic medicine. The event serves as the springboard of a health and wellness festival that will be held in August 2010.

The seminar will be held at the ISIP Center,  6241 Palma cor. Mañalac Sts., Makati City, near Rockwell. Call 899 4675, text 0917 557 7427, or email ISIP.Philippines@gmail.com for inquiries and registration.

What is the meaning of human existence? Are we just naked apes responding a little more “intelligently” to given stimuli? What is it that is evolving in us; and towards what? Are we in control of this evolutionary process? What does our external/material civilization say about our state of being? Why is self development essential? How can we make self development more conscious and truly fulfill our intentions?

These are some of the existential questions this seminar wishes to address through a path known as "Anthroposophy", meaning the "wisdom of the human being".

Rarely is this course given in the Philippines, facilitated by two of the pioneers of anthroposophic practice in the Philippines, Bella and Jake Tan. In this Introduction to Foundation Studies, presented by the Institute for Steiner's Ideas in Practice (ISIP) Philippines and the Rudolf Steiner Eduction in the Philippines (RStEP), the principles of Anthroposophy are presented in a direct, understandable way.

An overview of the introductory books written by Rudolf Steiner are offered, as well as how the arts, sciences, education, agriculture, medicine, architecture have been permeated and transformed by the impulse of Anthroposophy.

Anthroposophy shows a way to bring together the spiritual and practical in your life, and gives a deeper understanding of the nature of the human being. It provides answers to some of the most challenging riddles of human existence. and a way to nourish your inner life, open up creative impulses, and be of service to the world in a manner that truly serves it.

**This course also serves as a pre-requisite to the Early Childhood Studies to be held in April 2010 at ISIP Center.**
